Why We are here

Ski schools are an amazing place and there Murray River Watersports Association aims keep them round for years to come

The MRWA is at its heart a ski school - All of our board members grew up on the water and learnt their passion for waterskiing by meeting experts on the water, spending time with in the boat with family and falling in love with an amazing sport. In the last 5 years, the existence of Waterski Ski Schools has come under threat and it is for that reasonteh MRWA has come into existence. Below is our story

Ski Schools at one time were a business but since the early 2000’s it became increasingly difficult to register a commercial vessel in NSW. The area of government and policing that monitors vessels was busy looking at commercial vessels like oil tankers and passenger ferries and in time waterski vessels were making up such a small portion of their work that the rules that governed them were left behind and waterski boats found themselves having to comply with rules made for big diesel ships. Eventually a national Body for commercial vessels took over from the states and waterski boats were forgotten about completely. Unless a boat was already registered - it was no longer possible to own a waterski boat and use it for commercial purposes - the constraints on everything from flotation - shaft strength - engines and fuel lines were simply impossible to meet. On paper it can be done. But in reality a square beg doesn’t fit a round hole

This had huge impact on teaching people to waterski and the issues fell on deaf ears. Ski Schools are a beacon of safety and teach people the do’s and don’ts on the water. Its not just the lessons on how to ski but whats right and wrong. As less ski schools are about it will mean less waterskiing is performed - less people know the correct etiquette and people don’’t get the opportunity to spend time with their family having a good time.

Fortunately, a group of passionate water-skiers stepped up to form the non-for-profit known as the Murray River Watersports Association. A place where people can join up to the association as members and still receive high quality coaching. An association of waterskier with the goal to teach waterskiing to beginners and advanced skiers, to anyone that wants to be a member. This has meant that waterskiing tuition has continued in Mulwala, safe boating practises are taught and people can continue to get involved with a sport we love. The Ski School exists so young people can learn, grow, participate and end up pro’s in Waterskiing where they can live the dream of competing - or its just for anyone who wants to learn and spend time with their family having fun. Who ever you are, If you want to waterski we want you to join the MRWA and come ski with us.
